The Problem
Current polymers use petroleum as feedstock
consuming roughly 1 million barrels per day. The volatility in oil pricing equates to market risk.
Petroleum-based composites and plastics are non-degradable. In 2003, 27 million metric tons of plastic waste was dumped into U.S. landfills.
Engineered Wood Products (Particle Board) not only use petroleum-based polymers but also contain formaldehyde (an EPA named probable carcinogen)
